Choral Evensong St Mary's Church, West Moors Sunday 22nd May 2011 at 6pm

Cantamus thoroughly enjoyed singing Choral Evensong at St Mary's West Moors on Sunday May 22nd at 6pm.

It was a sunny late spring/early summer evening, ideal for a visit to a country church. The service was well attended with a good mix of people of all ages.

The church made us most welcome. On arrival the choir were greeted with refreshments before we even started to sing!

Attached to the very picturesque old church of St Mary's was  a lovely modern hall,  in which we were able to relax togerher once we were ready for the service.

We started the service by singing the beautiful motet 'If Ye love me' by Tallis.

Malcolm cantored for the Ayleward Responses as well as directing the choir and accompanying the service on the organ.

The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis were sang to the rousing setting in C by  Stanford.

The anthem was  'My Soul there is a country' by Parry.

There were also four well known hymns for everyone to sing:
O Praise Ye the Lord!
Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem
Father Hear The Prayer We Offer
Angel Voices Ever Singing

A church member kindly took photographs of us at the church door:

We are looking forward to returning to St Mary's for a Christmas concert on Sunday 11th December.
